SUMMARY:Open Call for Shorts - RawGround 25/26
DESCRIPTION:In our 6th edition\, RAW Moves is pleased to open our annual call for local and international artists to submit proposals for the next edition of RawGround (RG) 2025/26\, which will be running in February 2026*. \nPresented by RAW Moves in Singapore\, RawGround is designed to present a curated mini film showcase that fosters dialogue and broadens our perception of social norms. The short films\, created by artists and practitioners from various disciplines\, each reframe the aesthetics of the everyday through the lens of the individual. We welcome unorthodox\, conceptual works of narratives that redefine movement. \nApplicants are invited to conceptualise and create two new original short films~\, responding to this edition’s theme of “(Un)finished Work: In pursuit of the work of pretending”. \n\nThe Theme \nThe first of RAW Moves’ three-year exploration of “(Un)finished Work: In pursuit of ______” themes\, we delve into the paradigm of “pretending”: \n\n\n\n\nIn the work of “pretending”\, we explore the labour of balancing appearances and reality. As we externalise the self to connect with others\, we find these efforts can come at costs to ourselves. Going inward\, what are the personas we believe we need to uphold? Going forward\, what do we now shed – or shield – of ourselves? \n\n\n\n\nThe Process \nSelected artist-collaborators will be offered artist fees from RAW Moves for the conceptualisation and creation of the two films\, each ranging between 5 to 10 minute duration. In the staggered ten weeks creative process (From April 2025)\, each artist will be collaborating and supported by our Artistic Director and Resident Dramaturg to deliver two films. In addition to financial support\, appointed artist-collaborators will be able to develop their portfolio\, articulate ideas and enrich their creative processes through engaging diverse perspectives. This cultural exchange opportunity also offers visibility and chances to connect and interact with arts professionals and audiences from around the world. \n\n\n\n\nThe Presentation (3-days) \n\nFilm Screening Premiere\, Singapore\nThe final vignette of films will be launched at a physical screening session in Singapore^ in February 2026*\, which will include post-show dialogues at the end of the screening.\nArtists-led Workshops\, Singapore\nEach artist is required to host a 15 to 20 pax in-person workshop (1 – 1.5hour) that will engage the local arts community as an extension of their films’ narrative and concept. The extended events also offer networking opportunities with fellow artist-collaborators and local audiences. SUMMARY:Voices Festival Choir Open Call
DESCRIPTION:Calling all choristers to join the 2024 Voices Festival Choir! \nIn its third edition\, the Esplanade’s Voices Festival Choir (VFC) comprises auditioned youth choristers aged 17 – 26. These choristers will participate in various activities leading up to and during Voices 2024\, scheduled to take place from 25 & 27 Nov\, Mon & Wed as well as 1 – 8 Dec\, Sun – Sun. During this period\, choristers will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of rehearsal styles\, be exposed to a diversity of choral and vocal styles and deepen their understanding of nuances. \nThe Festival Choir will offer a unique opportunity for choristers to collaborate with renowned international artists The Gesualdo Six (UK) and The Idea of North (Australia)\, as well as Singaporean choral music educators from MI6. These artists will serve as the main facilitators and conductors of the project. \nThis programme aims to inspire youth choristers by introducing them to new aspects of choral singing and creating opportunities for them to connect with established professional groups. SUMMARY:Déjà vu: When the Sun Rises in the West
DESCRIPTION:The Private Museum Singapore is pleased to present Déjà vu: When the Sun Rises in the West\, an evocative exhibition featuring the works of renowned Thai artist Natee Utarit. In continuation of the first exhibition at Silpakorn University in 2022 commemorating the artist’s return to his alma mater\, this historic exhibition now journeys to Singapore\, bringing with it a new myriad of selections from local and regional private collections. \nInitiated in 2019\, the Déjà vu series proposes an alternative interpretation of history by reframing Western classical knowledge alongside Eastern and Buddhist concepts. This exhibition presents a hypothesis of a reimagined space and time\, encouraging the audience to consider scenarios of “what if”—how different historical events might have altered our socio-cultural present. The Déjà vdu series draws inspiration from the artist’s experience in Naples\, where a chance encounter with a marble sculpture at the Museo Archeologico sparked a profound connection. This moment of Déjà vu merged memories of Thailand’s Walking Buddha with the classical Western figure\, leading the artist to probe further into the intersections between Eastern and Western cultures. \nNatee Utarit’s exploration through the series is deeply personal\, yet it resonates with universal themes of memory\, identity\, and culture. Through a diverse array of mediums—including painting\, sculpture\, embroidery\, stained glass\, and woodcut—the works serve as a reminder that history is not linear\, but cyclical; that the past\, present\, and future are constantly intertwined in ways that shape our perceptions of the world. By challenging the boundaries of historical plausibility\, the exhibition offers viewers a space to consider the possibilities that emerge when traditional narratives are turned on their heads\, symbolically represented by the paradoxical notion of the sun rising in the west. \nDéjà vu: When the Sun Rises in the West is the final instalment of The Private Museum’s 2024 programming—offering a fitting closure to a year of diverse artistic and cultural exploration. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Richard Koh Fine Art.

The exhibition features 11 limited edition designs crafted from stainless steel and in the typology of everyday interior objects: sofa\, lounger\, chair\, bar stool\, standing screen\, and vase. Sculptural\, sleek and thought-provoking in shapes and polished to a mirror finish\, these works overturn conventional expectations of industrial design and push the symbiotic interdependence between form and functionality of such objects beyond their familiar material and presence. \nThe marriage of art and industrial design is an artistic process well explored in the creative world. Ushered in by the likes of Western artists such as Donald Judd\, John Chamberlain and Dan Flavin\, who opened up a new entire visual vocabulary since the 1960s\, this practice has continued to inform contemporary currents of art and industrial expressions in myriad ways. In Singapore\, however\, this remains a niche exploration and an undercelebrated creative practice. With his exceptional background in design and craftsmanship\, Nathan’s interest in challenging and bridging the formal expressions of art and object design has been at the forefront of his exploration with industrial materials over the decades. Being and Nothingness – A Discourse on Identity showcases Nathan’s latest series of work\, through which he examines the relationships surrounding material design\, space and identity. \nIn the realm of Singaporean artistry\, the choice of stainless steel pipes and sheets as a medium carries profound symbolism\, reflecting the cultural and societal ethos of the nation. This medium\, inherently sleek and efficient\, evokes a paradoxical narrative\, oscillating between cleanliness and coldness\, efficiency and a lack of warmth. Just as polished stainless steel mirrors its surroundings\, there is a reflection of Singapore’s societal fabric where efficiency often prevails\, but at times\, individual identity can feel overshadowed. Singapore\, a city-state known for its modernity and progress\, is often portrayed through the lens of efficiency and cleanliness. DESCRIPTION:Apply by Mon 30 Sep 2024 (2359H) \nThe Young Photographers’ Mentorship Programme (YPMP) aims to develop the artistic voice and ambitions of young photographers. This three-week long mentorship programme encourages them to explore and experiment with image-based work\, and deepen their understanding of the creative and professional possibilities in photography. The programme was formerly known as the Shooting Home Youth Awards. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to learn from some of the region’s foremost visual storytellers as mentors and guest lecturers. Topics covered include how to develop a personal photographic practice\, professional and ethical considerations\, and exhibition making. They will work towards completing one photo project\, which will be presented at Objectifs in the form of an open studio at the end of the programme. \nYPMP is open to Singapore-based photographers aged 15 to 23 years old. \nOnly 12 participants will be selected for this programme. DESCRIPTION:Sound Plot is Centre 42’s audio plays series\, each edition drawing on a certain geographic area in Singapore. This edition\, produced in collaboration with the NTU Museum\, zooms in on Jurong West and its surrounding area\, where the university is located. \nThis is an invitation for two writers to respond through audio drama to this fascinating area\, guided by the curatorial prompt “Ulu”. Selected writers will need to be available for an intensive 3-week script development phase in October 2024\, and will work with a director during the recording and production process in November & December 2024. Audio production will be done in collaboration with Artwave Studio\, and slated for release online in January 2025. \nThis is a paid opportunity\, and commissioned writers will receive $1\,000 each. \n\n\n\n\nTO APPLY\n\n\n\n\nApplication period runs from 5 August 2024 (12pm) to 15 September 2024 (12pm). Here thrum large swathes of undeveloped secondary forest\, rewilding over the memories of the gambier plantations that kickstarted Singapore’s endless development. Here\, the coast hugs the mouth of the Straits of Johor\, where we can still imagine our deep connections to ancient kingdoms. Here lies a large university town\, filled with utopian architecture that tells a story about a world that could be so much better and kinder to the earth. And here lie the hopes and dreams of new families looking to build lives in one of the fastest-growing residential zones on the island\, each built-to-order flat remaking the “ulu” face of the Western region. \nWe invite you to write a play that reckons in any way with these ideas. They are one of the area’s oldest indigenous residents. The tribe has a deep spiritual and emotional connection to the land from years of living in and managing the forest\, with the frankincense tree occupying a special place in their folklore and beliefs. Aside for using the land for farming and gathering\, they harvest the fragrant resin of frankincense trees\, a practice that has been in place for generations. \nThe tribe’s ancestral lands have slowly been encroached upon by eucalyptus plantations established by a major company that pulps eucalyptus trees for industrial purposes. These plantations have turned a vibrant ecosystem into a monoculture; the frankincense trees that used to grow plentifully are disappearing and the land has been left bereft\, threatening the tribe’s traditional livelihoods and practices. \nAbout the Objectifs Documentary Award\nThe Objectifs Documentary Award champions Objectifs’ mission to broaden perspectives through image making\, by supporting original voices in visual storytelling in Singapore and the wider region. The recipient will work with curator Goh Sze Ying to curate and present a solo exhibition at Objectifs in May 2025\, and SGD$8\,000 to work on a new or existing body of work. \nOne finalist will receive a grant of SGD$1\,000 to continue their practice. \n2) Emerging Category\nThe Emerging Category will be awarded to 2 recipients from Southeast Asia. Each recipient receives a 6 month-long mentorship with Jessica Lim\, Director of Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops\, a presentation at Objectifs in May 2025\, and SGD$3\,000 to work on a new or existing body of work. \nOne finalist will receive a grant of SGD$500 to continue their practice. \nRecipients will receive production and logistical support from Objectifs for the exhibition. Completed works will be promoted on Objectifs’ website and social media channels. Make themselves available for media interviews\nRecipients agree that works for the proposed project will not be shown as part of a festival\, exhibition or editorial without the written consent of Objectifs\, prior to the exhibition at Objectifs in May 2025.\nRecipients should ensure that they obtain any relevant and/or necessary approvals\, permits and/or rights when working on their projects.\nRecipients should provide regular updates as to the progress of their project to Objectifs and the programme mentor/curator.\nRecipients will retain copyrights of all works developed for the project.\nRecipients may apply for other grants/project funds from their own countries or in Singapore\, concurrent with this award.\nThe grant quantum is fixed.
