SUMMARY:Benchmarks
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Civic District afresh this August 2023 onwards\, with Benchmarks\, a new public art trail commissioned by the Civic District Alliance (CDA). Designed by six Singapore-based artists\, Lua Boon Kai\, Joyce Beetuan Koh\, Immanuel Koh\, Yang Jie\, Jeffrey Tan and Jason Wee\, the public art initiative features a series of six unconventional artwork benches inspired by punctuation marks dotted around the arts and culture precinct. Each art bench draws from the rich heritage of the district\, inviting visitors to have meaningful exchanges with themselves\, other visitors\, or even the surroundings while appreciating the beauty of the Civic District and its colourful stories. These art benches for Benchmarks are located at key areas of the Civic District\, such as the Asian Civilisations Museum\, The Arts House\, The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and along the Singapore River. \nFollow #CVDBenchmarks on:\nWebsite: https://artshouselimited.sg/civic-district\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theartshouse\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/theartshouse

SUMMARY:𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬
DESCRIPTION:MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum is delighted to announce the opening of its latest exhibition\, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬\, curated by Roger Nelson. This distinctive showcase\, running from 9 March to 15 July 2024\, features an international ensemble of artists who delve into the concept of adaptation in art\, transforming various inspirations into new creations. \nAll the artworks in 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬 can be considered “adaptations\,” meaning that they respond to stories that the artists have taken from elsewhere. For example\, some artworks are inspired by works of literature and cinema. Other artworks take their cue from historical paintings\, sculptures\, and designs by other artists. Some artworks are also inspired by writings by scholars and theorists. \nDespite this\, all the artworks in the exhibition transform the stories they respond to into something new. In this way\, while they can be considered “adaptations\,” they are not trying to be exact copies of other artworks or literary or cinematic sources. Instead\, they are deliberately “unfaithful” kinds of adaptation\, meaning that they use their artistic license to freely change the look and feel of the stories they are responding to. \nThe concept of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬 is inspired by two of the artists that are included in the exhibition. They are Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (b. 1957\, Thailand) and Mieke Bal (b. 1946\, Netherlands). Both artists are world-famous and have exhibited at many prominent platforms internationally. Both artists are also prolific writers\, and their writings as well as ideas from their artworks have inspired the title and curator’s concept for the exhibition. \nThe exhibition also showcases newly commissioned artworks\, including an installation by Fyerool Darma featuring a recording of a séance with a deceased man\, a series of paintings by Ian Tee based on a Chinese mythological tale\, and an artwork by Thao Nguyen Phan\, which reconstructs furniture designed by Vietnamese artist Diem Phung Thi\, serving as seating for visitors to engage with the displayed works. This approach is inspired by the writings and artworks of Mieke Bal and Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook. Additional pieces include videos and films by internationally acclaimed artists like Mieke Bal\, CAMP\, and Chulayarnnon Siriphol\, as well as an early silent film from Spain showcasing extended sword-fighting scenes\, created in 1908 by Ricardo de Baños & Alberto Marro. \nOriginally exhibited at Nanyang Technological University’s ADM Gallery in Singapore\, this exhibition was made possible with the support of Jim Thompson and Quu Hotel.

SUMMARY:CALL FOR ARTISTS: ANIMA MUNDI 2024
DESCRIPTION:ITSLIQUID Group\, in collaboration with ACIT Venice – Italian-German Cultural Association\, is pleased to announce the open call for ANIMA MUNDI 2024\, an international exhibition of photography\, painting\, video art\, installation/sculpture\, and performance art\, that will be held in Venice\, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello and in other prestigious venues and historical buildings\, from April to June 2024\, during the 60th Venice Biennale of Art. \nThe last edition of ANIMA MUNDI took place in Venice in 2022\, presenting a great selection of more than 500 art works realized by 250 artists\, coming from 40 countries. The festival focuses on the concept of ANIMA MUNDI\, which according to several historical cultures\, religions and philosophical systems\, is an intrinsic connection between all living entities on the planet\, which relates to the world in a similar way as the human soul is connected to the human body. \nPlato expressed his thought about the ANIMA MUNDI in the Timaeus\, “this world is indeed a living being endowed with a soul and intelligence… a single visible living entity containing all other living entities\, which by their nature are all related”.
