Freaky Metamorphosis Exhibition

June 6, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - July 2, 2022 @ 8:00 pm

Free

The little-known artist behind the numerous colourful iconic murals at Haji and Bali Lane opens his first solo exhibition today till July 2 at Studio Neon (32 Haji Lane). The exhibition titled Freaky Metamorphosis comprises 16 delightful mixed-media acrylic paintings with an abstract geometrical theme.

Idris Johor, better known by his moniker PrettyFreakyFantasy (PFF), has been instrumental in shaping the identity of Bali and Haji Lane since 2006, via with his IG-worthy psychedelic murals and eye-catching installations for a chain of F&B outlets located at the pre-war shophouses.

The works of Freaky Metamorphosis is a PFF signature. The Singaporean artist explores the geometrical theme, re-constructing cylindrical, modular forms and linear lines in bold colours and subtle gradients to achieve depth, vibrancy and complexity that yield a 3-D effect for each work. Juxtaposed against stark black, white and grey backgrounds, compositions are framed in 4×4, circular and hexagonal triple-primed linen canvas in various sizes.

The collection of Idris’ paintings is inspired by his family members, in particular, 16 of his nieces and grand-nieces aged between three and 38 years old. He says: “I’m close to all my nieces and they became the point of inspiration for each painting, which is named after them. I expressed their personalities using shapes and colours.” The paintings took at least six months to complete.
